Last January 11, 2025, participants joined an insightful session led by Vanessa Valerio, RN, CCM, CHCA, a seasoned healthcare professional and Certified Dementia Coach. With over a decade of experience in elder care, Vanessa guided families and caregivers through the critical distinctions between normal aging and dementia. Drawing from her expertise in person-centered dementia care and her ongoing Master of Science in Gerontology studies at USC, Vanessa provided practical tips for recognizing the signs of cognitive decline and managing the challenges that come with caregiving. She also shared strategies rooted in Teepa Snow’s Positive Approach to Care® to support individuals with dementia compassionately and effectively. Attendees left the event equipped with a deeper understanding of aging and dementia, along with actionable tools to enhance the quality of life for their loved ones and themselves.
